Build-a-Beat Puerto Rico: A Look Back

On June 18, 2025, Black Girls Code touched down in Puerto Rico for our first-ever Build-a-Beat experience at Atlantic University—and what a day it was!

In partnership with El Beatdown and music-tech leaders across the industry, we brought together students, creators, educators, and employers for a powerful day of inspiration, skill-building, and connection. Through beat-making workshops, live DJ sets, hands-on demos, and career conversations, we showed how music and technology can shape pathways into the workforce—and why Puerto Rican talent must be part of that future.

This event was part of our three-part mission to Inspire, Educate, and Launch:

• Inspire: Industry panels and live sets showed youth there’s a place for them in the music-tech space.
• Educate: Students learned real skills in beat production and audio programming, while hearing about degree and certificate pathways at Atlantic University.
• Launch: Employers and creatives met future talent—and future collaborators.
